Description

Not the best Orion's Nebula shot, I know. It was a big moon, there was wind (outside, not mine) and the seeing was like a bucket of water on a train.

However, my aim was to tease out more of the cloud structure, which just amazes me always. Beautiful violent swirls caused by the deadly blast from new stars being born, always seems gothic and wonderful to me.

For a while I thought my images were a bit off, as I always get a bit of green imaging this object, where many folks have lovely pink swirly stuff. I color balance using Pixinsight photometric calibration though to align with real stars (because my personal image color calibration is bonkers), so it bugged me. However, I learned today that it's a thing! The green is "... caused by a low-probability electron transition in doubly ionized oxygen, a so-called forbidden transition".

PHEW! My camera is ok!
